Accessibility Statement

Bramble & Bolt wants this shop to be usable by as many people as possible, including people using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, screen magnification or speech recognition.

What we have done

This website uses a theme built specifically for us, with accessibility considered as it was written rather than added afterwards. Specifically:

  • Every page starts with a "Skip to content" link so keyboard users can bypass the navigation.
  • All interactive elements — links, buttons, form fields, menus and the basket drawer — can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone, and show a clearly visible focus outline.
  • Menus, accordions and dialogs use ARIA attributes that tell assistive technology whether they are open or closed, and the basket and menu drawers trap focus while open and return it when closed.
  • Text and background colour combinations used throughout the theme were checked against WCAG 2.1 level AA and meet at least a 4.5:1 contrast ratio.
  • Headings follow a logical order on every template, so a screen reader user can navigate by heading structure.
  • Images carry alternative text; images that are purely decorative are marked so that screen readers skip them.
  • Form fields have properly associated labels, and error messages are announced rather than shown only in colour.
  • Animation is minimal, and the site honours the "reduce motion" setting in your operating system.
  • Layouts work at mobile widths and reflow without horizontal scrolling when text is enlarged.

Known limitations

Some parts of the shopping experience are provided by Shopify rather than by us — most importantly the checkout — and we do not control their markup. Product descriptions supplied by manufacturers may occasionally contain formatting we have not yet reviewed. We are also aware that alternative text on some product photographs is still generic, and we are working through the catalogue to improve it.

Standard we are aiming for

We are working towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA. This statement describes the position honestly rather than claiming full conformance, because the site has not been independently audited.
